Sachin Tendulkar reveals the one cricket rule he would change in international cricket

Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, often hailed as the ‘God of Cricket’ recently engaged with fans on Reddit through an interactive “Ask Me Anything” session. The Indian legend fielded a variety of questions, ranging from his career highlights to his views on the modern game. But one answer in particular caught everyone’s attention—Tendulkar shared the one rule he would like to see changed in international cricket.

Sachin Tendulkar reveals which rule he would change in cricket

When asked about rule changes, Tendulkar firmly stated that he would scrap the controversial “Umpire’s Call” in the Decision Review System (DRS). His reasoning was simple yet thought-provoking. According to him, players usually opt for a review because they are not convinced with the on-field umpire’s decision. In that case, he believes it makes little sense for the final outcome to still depend on the same ruling.

“I would change the DRS rule on Umpire’s Call. Players have chosen to go upstairs because they were unhappy with the on-field umpire’s call. Hence there should be no option to go back to that call,” Tendulkar explained.

Tendulkar offers his perspective on human error in the game

The batting maestro also offered perspective on human error in cricket. He pointed out that just like cricketers experience ups and downs in form, umpires too go through phases where their decision-making might not be at its best. In his view, technology—despite not being flawless—provides consistency, which is essential for the sport.

“Just like how players have bad patches, umpires too have bad patches. Technology, even when inaccurate, will be consistently inaccurate,” Tendulkar emphasized, highlighting why reliance on tech could make the game fairer.
