Sri Lanka announce T20I squad for Asia Cup 2025, Wanindu Hasaranga returns

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has officially announced its 16-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025. Led by Charith Asalanka, the team combines experience and fresh talent, aiming for a record-extending seventh continental crown.

Wanindu Hasaranga returns to Sri Lanka’s T20I squad

The biggest boost comes with the return of spin bowling all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. Having missed recent matches due to injury, Hasaranga is expected to be fit in time for the tournament. His wicket-taking ability and lower-order hitting make him a game-changer on subcontinent pitches.

Meanwhile, Asalanka – known for his composure under pressure – will guide a side rich in all-round options. Former captain Dasun Shanaka and Chamika Karunaratne bring power hitting, medium pace, and valuable experience, ensuring flexibility across match situations.

Sri Lanka’s spin arsenal looks potent, with Hasaranga joined by Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage. Their variety is backed by a formidable pace attack featuring Matheesha Pathirana’s raw pace, Dushmantha Chameera’s experience and Binura Fernando’s left-arm swing. Together, they form a well-rounded unit ready for any challenge.
