Southern Brave extended their unbeaten run in The Hundred Women’s 2025 with a nerve-jangling three-wicket win over Welsh Fire at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.

Put in to bat, Welsh Fire’s start went from bad to worse as Hayley Matthews fell for a golden duck in the opening set. Sophia Dunkley steadied the innings with a fluent 31, but just as skipper Tammy Beaumont looked to lift the tempo, Maia Bouchier produced an unforgettable diving grab at mid-on off Lauren Bell’s bowling. That moment left Fire wobbling at 32 for 2 after the powerplay, a blow from which they never fully recovered.

Despite Georgia Elwiss’s fighting 36 not out off 36, Fire could only muster 111 for 6. Lauren Bell (2/21) and Sophie Devine (2/23) kept things tight, ensuring Brave were firmly in control.

Bouchier shines with the bat as well
Chasing 112, Brave started brightly as Bouchier (35 off 30) and Danni Wyatt-Hodge put on a brisk 48 for the opening wicket. But Jess Jonassen turned the game on its head with a devastating spell of 4 for 10, dismantling the middle order and dragging the match into the final set of five balls.
With six needed off the last five deliveries, Georgia Adams and Rhianna Southby held their nerve, nudging singles and running hard between the wickets. Even a tense run-out couldn’t derail them, as Brave scraped home with one ball to spare.
The result keeps Southern Brave unbeaten and in the top three, while eliminating Welsh Fire from contention.
